The fire marshal and Don finally settle on an award that catches the essence of a brave firefighter, which was a fire axe.
Making Art from Glass
Making glass blown art is a challenge, when you must make sure to keep it spectacular, and keep you clients happy.
This is why often an “idea” ends up becoming a very different and tailored made figure.
Thom and Don must conform to making items for resale, in other words, pieces that are generally bought, but they still end up making lots of work that just satisfies their artistic juices.
Don and Thom can think up a sketch for somebody, and design it into a tremendous sculpture.
Often, Thom can use his dreams to flow into his glass artwork and create a masterpiece from a simple piece of glass.
Thom’s background is in scientific glassblowing, which means that many of his sketches are not attempted by any other glassblowing artist.
Blowing glass bubbles is not what Thom does, but rather use very small pieces of glass, his breath and a blowtorch to create his masterpieces.
Scientific glassblowers often use their knowledge to make beakers or coiling, so that is what truly makes Thom distinctive because he uses his abilities to create glass works of art.
