This change is the most important factor note when you analyze and write essays about every story, whether short and long. What is that change? Why, an alternative view reverse, of course – always! I’ll demonstrate how to use these three-step new view test process on Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily, ” which you’ll then use on every short story – #1 – Before you start of a short account, a strong value proclamation, an old view, is given by or about the main character, asserting an evaluation or describing some attribute, goal, or desire. That seems like a pretty strong value statement, doesn’t it, especially since ” whole town decided on her funeral. ” Issue is, how will that strong positive value about Emily change by the end of the account? #2 – During a short story, the old view is reinforced or undercut with explanations, conflicts, and resolutions to conflicts that arrange the new view afre the wedding. Now, I’m not going to touch upon everything in the account. But did you recognize that every section of this story has something about the townspeople’s respect with regard to Emily? Sometimes there was even affection along with the respect. ACCOUNT: Several descriptions occur in this short story, but one stands right out of the rest. In the first section, after the limited introduction, the board of alderman in the town (city councilmen) attended to her mansion in order to reach with Miss Emily to convince her to pay her taxes, and – They will rose when she entered – a small, fat woman in dark, with a thin silver chain descending to the woman’s waist and vanishing into her belt, leaning with an ebony cane with some sort of tarnished gold head.
